Terms & Conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and Catch a Shift. They cover creating an account, applying for shift work, and what happens to your money when you pay to have an application reviewed.

Who we are, and what this is

Catch a Shift is a staffing platform for shift work. Employers post shifts, workers build a profile and apply for them, and we review a worker's application before that account can take shifts.

We run the platform. The work itself - the hours, the duties and the pay for any shift you accept - is arranged between you and the employer who posted it, unless we tell you otherwise in writing.

Creating an account or using any part of the service means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use Catch a Shift.
  • The details you give us have to be true, and they have to be yours. One person, one account.
  • We verify your email address and your phone number before an account can be used.
  • Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you, so tell us at support@catchashift.com the moment you think somebody else has it.
  • We may refuse, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

Applying to work shifts

Before you can take shifts you complete an application: your personal details, your address, the job categories and skills you work in, the area you are willing to travel, the documents that show you can do the work, and your consent and signature.

We review that application. Approval is our decision. Documents that are altered, expired or not yours end the account, and we may report them.

An approved account is not a promise of shifts, hours or income. Employers choose who they take on.

Your electronic signature

The signature you draw during onboarding, with the name and date you enter beside it, is your signature. It has the same effect as one written by hand.

You agree to receive the agreements, notices and records connected to your account electronically rather than on paper. You can ask for a paper copy of anything you have signed by emailing support@catchashift.com.

Plans, and how the payment actually works

Choosing a plan and confirming it does not take your money. We place an authorization hold on your card for the plan amount and leave it there while your application is reviewed.

  • If your application is approved, the hold is captured and the amount is taken then. Your account becomes active.
  • If your application is rejected, the hold is released and nothing is taken.
  • If nobody reviews your application, the hold expires by itself after about a week and nothing is taken. You are free to apply again.

A hold can still appear on your statement as a pending amount. That is your bank reserving it, not us taking it, and it clears on your bank's timing once the hold is released.

The amount shown before you confirm is the amount we hold, and the amount taken on approval is that same figure. It is a one-off fee for the plan. Nothing renews and nothing recurs.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go from your browser to Stripe, and we never receive or store your full card number. We keep the card brand, the last four digits, the amount and the status of the payment, so that we can show you what happened.

Because the fee is only taken once an application has been approved, it is not refundable afterwards, other than where the law requires it. If you believe a payment was taken in error, email support@catchashift.com and we will look at it.

How you may use the service

Use Catch a Shift for finding, offering and managing shift work, and for nothing else. In particular, do not:

  • give false information, or apply as somebody else
  • use documents, qualifications or an identity that are not yours
  • collect data from the platform automatically, or copy it into a competing service
  • try to reach accounts, data or parts of the system you have not been given
  • sell, share or rent your account access to anyone else
  • interfere with the service, or with the people using it

Location and coverage

You set the area you are willing to work in and how far you will travel. We use that to decide which shifts to show you, and to tell an employer whether you cover a shift's location.

Some shift features use your location while you are working, so that attendance can be confirmed. That permission is yours to give in your device settings, and withholding it may mean you cannot take certain shifts.

The documents and details you give us

What you upload stays yours. You give us permission to store it, to show it to the reviewers who assess your application, and to show the relevant parts of your profile to employers whose shifts you apply for.

The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we hold, why we hold it, and for how long.

Suspending or closing an account

You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing support@catchashift.com. We may suspend or close one that breaks these terms, that we believe is fraudulent, or where we are required to.

If an account is closed while a payment is still on hold, the hold is released and nothing is taken. A fee already taken on approval is not returned by the closure itself.

The service itself

Catch a Shift is under active development. Features change, screens move, and parts of the product are not finished. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or free of errors.

We provide it as it is. We do not guarantee that you will be offered work, that an employer will honour a shift, or that any particular result will follow from using it.

Limits

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Beyond that, we are not liable for lost earnings, lost opportunities or indirect losses, and our total liability to you for anything connected with the service is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top is the version you are reading. Where a change materially affects you we will tell you before it takes effect, and using the service after that is how you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and the courts of New York have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them.
